The Legend of Prince Rama, originally released in 1993, is set to be re-released in Indian Cinemas on January 24, 2025. The story of the Ramayana is traditionally attributed to the ancient text Valmiki from ancient India and is considered one of the most epics of Hinduism apart from the Mahabharata. The story of Ramayana narrates the life of Rama the seventh avatar of Hindu deity ‘Vishnu’ who was also the prince of Ayodhya.

The story goes on to describe the events wherein Rama has been subjected to a fourteen-year exile to the forest urged by his father King Dasharatha at the request of Rama’s stepmother Kaikeyi along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana. What follows next is the events wherein his wife Sita is kidnapped by Ravana the king of Lanka which results in a blood bath and Rama’s eventual return to Ayodhya along with Sita. History Behind Making of The Legend of Prince Rama Movie

The Legend of Prince Ramayana was first screened at the 24th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 1993. This movie will also be released in two parts during Diwali 2026 and 2027 respectively. The 4k theatrical release also promises to enhance the visual and the audio appeal offering the viewers a deeply immersive cinematic experience. As per the media reports, the film’s trailer was premiered online across India on January 10. Geek Pictures also said in a statement.

During its first release in 1992, the government of India was not ready as they did not want to depict Ramayana as a cartoon character. So the Movie was initially Produced in Japan forming the Nippon Ramayana Films with a reportedly budget of 6.7 Million dollars. Mr Narendra Sharma was appointed as the Script consultant whereas Rani Day Burra became the Co-writer. In fact, in the year 2000, the movie was also released in America as The Prince of Light and was dubbed into American English and narrated by James Earl Jones. In 2002 Cartoon Network’s leading kids channel decided to telecast the Hindi club of the two-hour feature film.

In the year 2022 to Celebrate 70 years of Indo-Japenese diplomatic Relations the 4k version of the movie was shown in the English version. Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Japan in the year 2022 visit to Japan cleared the way to make the movie which Narendra Modi also pointed out during a TV Radio show which set the ball rolling for a wide Indian Release. The Geek Pictures which wanted to bring the film back to India translated and dubbed the film and collaborated with AA Films and Excel Entertainment to bring Ramayana.
